Belfield Literary Review No. 2

Having also had work featured in the inaugural issue last year, I'm very pleased to have four new poems as fragmented-disembodied lyric included in Belfield Literary Review No. 2 (Spring 2022) - an issue guest-curated and edited by Niamh Campbell.

Belfield Literary Review is a beautifully produced annual journal published by Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) in collaboration with the UCD School of English, Drama and Film. The journal "has grown out of the creative writing community in University College Dublin, and [...] deals with the interface between critical and creative work, hybrid texts and the experimental."

Issue 2 is titled 'The Long Journey', and also includes work from many excellent writers such as Chris Beausang, Adrian Duncan, Mia Gallagher, Darragh McCausland, Chris Murray, Nathan O'Donnell, Sue Rainsford, Sam Riviere, Sydney Weinberg, and more.

It was launched last Monday 2 May at MoLI with readings from some of the contributors, and where I had the opportunity to present two of my featured poems.

Thanks to Niamh for publishing these poems, and also to Belfield Literary Review managing editor Paul Perry and publisher Simon O'Connor. Copies of BLR No. 2 are available to purchase from the MoLI website. Subscriptions to the journal are also available.

some mark made

some mark made is a new limited edition publication that considers hybrid, material and intellectually rigorous literary practices. Edited by  Sue Rainsford , it features "experimental and speculative writing in the veins of poetry, prose and criticism from Claire Farley, Shauna Barbosa, Caroline Doolin, Michael Naghten Shanks, Michelle Hall, Jonelle Mannion, Christodoulos Makris, Julie Morrissy and Sue Rainsford." Rainsford writes in her editorial: "Often, when literary activity foregrounds its visual or tactile elements, when it embraces process or takes place away from the immediate terrain of the page, it’s ascribed titles such as ‘hybrid’, ‘performative’ or ‘experimental’. These terms seem to soften boundary lines so that bodies of writing can be intuitive rather than narrative, sensory rather than descriptive. 'Capital' at Irish Museum of Modern Art

On Saturday 5 September I will present a new long poem with title 'Capital' at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). This is part of a programme of events for The People's Pavilion installation, a public outdoor space located on the museum's front lawn where people can meet safely in specially designed social distancing circles. From the event description: 'Capital' is a polyphonic poem composed of fragments of text from unattributed reviews of establishments on Talbot Street, publicly available on Google Maps. It has its roots in Makris’s longstanding interest in the shifts in language use, communication and identity brought about by digital media, and their implication on poetic discourse. The poem maps the street through the kind of public-private writing prevalent online (the reviews often stray into personal anecdote).
