Guest Speaker at York St John University

On Monday 14 March I'll be giving a talk at York St John University as part of the Faculty of Arts visiting speaker programme, for which "artists and curators come to YSJ to give one-off artist talks, lead focussed tutorial and critique sessions or work alongside a full-time academic member of staff to design and deliver a project or module." My thanks to Lucy O'Donnell for the invitation.

I'll be speaking on the interconnected strands of my practice - compositional, editorial & curatorial - with various visual aids and material as suggested further reading. With that in mind (and also looking ahead to a forthcoming event next month) here's James King & Ellen Factor performing at the Verbal Arts Centre in Derry in 2014 as part of Yes But Are We Enemies:

Icarus Magazine 75th Anniversary Edition (Vol LXXV | Issue III)

I was happy to contribute new work to the landmark 75th Anniversary Edition of Icarus , Trinity College Dublin's student literary magazine, as one of eight featured contemporary writers. This edition , published in the last week of August 2025, also includes material from current Trinity College students, and a number of legacy contributions reproduced from the magazine's archives. cross-stream: ways of writing

I'm delighted to announce a series of talks from a diverse group of contemporary poets discussing their writing process. Produced in partnership with Fingal Libraries , these talks / presentations will take place in various library branches over four weeks in February and March 2015. All events are free admission and start at 6.30pm, and will include Q&A sessions. Full details below: A series consisting of four events, each featuring two outstanding contemporary poets writing out of different poetic traditions (e.g. lyrical, cosmopolitan, experimental, performance) discussing the compositional process behind one of their poems. gorse No. 10

I'm very excited and proud to announce the release of  gorse No. 10. Curated and edited by myself, this special issue of gorse is a limited edition, mixed-media book-in-a-box featuring specially-commissioned contemporary responses to 'the readymade' in literature from writers, poets, artists and translators based across Europe and North America. Published on the centenary + 1 of Marcel Duchamp's 'Fountain' (though recent research supports the likelihood that the creator of the original artwork was Baroness Elsa Von Freytag-Loringhoven) the issue stands as an exploration of Duchamp's artistic gesture as it pertains to the social/political/technological conditions, writing processes and publishing practices prevailing in the early 21st century.
