For Succour 11 , our Spring/Summer 2010 issue, we would like to invite submissions which pertain not to a theme, as has hitherto been the case, but which adhere to a pair of conditions. Condition 1: All submissions should be written on Saturday February 6th, 2010. Condition 2: What you write should not be an attempt to execute an idea – for a story, for a poem, etc – that has previously occurred to you. Rather, we would prefer you to write whatever happens to come into your head at that particular time. The idea for this issue was inspired by 20 Lines a Day by Harry Mathews, in which the author sets out to follow a rule Stendhal once set himself, to write ‘Twenty lines a day, genius or not’. Icarus Magazine 75th Anniversary Edition (Vol LXXV | Issue III)

I was happy to contribute new work to the landmark 75th Anniversary Edition of Icarus , Trinity College Dublin's student literary magazine, as one of eight featured contemporary writers. This edition , published in the last week of August 2025, also includes material from current Trinity College students, and a number of legacy contributions reproduced from the magazine's archives. The other featured writers are Paula Meehan, Paul Lynch, Catherine Prasifka, Eoin McNamee, Louise Nealon, Paul Durcan, and Gustav Parker Hibbett. Icarus is "the oldest continuous literary journal in Ireland and the UK". Since 1950 it has been publishing poetry, prose, drama, personal essays and visual art from students, staff and alumni of Trinity College Dublin, including work by Simon Armitage, William Burroughs, Seamus Heaney, Eavan Boland, Paul Muldoon, and Louis MacNeice. my new collection now available to pre-order

Spitting Out the Mother Tongue is now available to pre-order from the Wurm Press website for the special pre-publication price of €10 (plus € 2 postage to addresses outside Ireland). Publication will be in September, with a launch planned for early October - details nearer the time. At the moment I'm correcting the proofs. I'm really pleased with how it's coming together - the typography, cover design, overall feel - and excited about bringing out this strand of my work in book form. I can't wait to get my hands on the actual thing!
