Reading at Maynooth University

This coming Wednesday 7 November I'll be reading in the Arts and Humanities Institute at Maynooth University (Room 1.33, 1st floor, Iontas Building) in an event introducing myself and Paul Lynch as Writers-in-Residence for 2018-19. We start at 4pm and the event is free and open to the public.

Featured Writer in Icarus Magazine (Vol 67, No. 1)

I'm very happy to have new work,   as Featured Writer, in the latest issue (Vol 67, No. 1) of Icarus Magazine. Icarus  is a student magazine based at Trinity College Dublin. It is Ireland's longest running literary journal, still a print publication but with extended online versions of each issue. Founded in 1950 by Alec Reid, it has appeared three times a year since and publishes writing mainly by students, staff and alumni of the University. Former Icarus editors include Iain Sinclair, Maurice Scully, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, David Wheatley, Selina Guinness and Sue Rainsford, while some notable former contributors are Seamus Heaney, Louis MacNeice, Eavan Boland, Sinéad Morrissey, Justin Quinn, Thom Gunn, Colm Tóibín, Vona Groarke, Desmond Hogan and Kevin Barry. Cyphers 91

A new poem of mine with title 'it begins with Eileen' was published in issue 91 of Cyphers , released at the beginning of May 2021. Founded in 1975 by Leland Bardwell, Pearse Hutchinson, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin and Macdara Woods, Cyphers is one of Ireland's longest-established literary magazines , publishing poetry, prose, graphics and reviews. It's currently edited by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin  with assistance from Léan Ní Chuilleanáin and Natasha Cuddington. Cyphers was one of the first poetry magazines I encountered when I moved from London to Dublin in 2001 so the invitation to contribute was very welcome. 'it begins with Eileen' relates to 'languages on the street' as one of the issue's loose framing concerns, and it's taken from my recent cycle of poems responding to aspects of digital gesture and performativity. re:verb 2026: a documentary

Big thanks to everyone who made  the pilot edition of re:verb   such a joyous and remarkable experience: participating poets and artists, design and technical support, venue, bookshop, audience(s). It was a genuine pleasure to organise, programme, direct and host. Wonderful also to see a full or near-full house at all five sessions. An article on Asymptote journal - a leading online platform for international literature and translation - called re:verb "a daring and much needed enterprise" and "a one-of-a-kind literary festival in Ireland (and possibly the world)." I put together a short documentary of re:verb 2026 which I hope captures something of its spirit and vibe. Though you really had to be there.
