Poetry's Environments at The University of Leeds

Earlier this month I contributed a performative paper at the international conference 'Poetry's Environments' organised and hosted by  Poetry@Leeds  at The University of Leeds. The conference took place over three days (9-11 June 2026) at Cloth Court Hall in Leeds city centre and the University of Leeds campus. Convened by a team headed by Kimberly Campanello , Professor of Poetry and Director of Poetry@Leeds,  'Poetry's Environments' aimed to "consider poetry that addresses the natural environment and the environments in which poetry is written, experienced, performed, preserved, and studied" by bringing together "international poets, critics, translators, archivists, activists, textual editors, digital specialists, literary professionals, and individuals, groups and organisations involved in poetry and its environments". Platform 31

I'm very pleased to be selected for participation in the inaugural Platform 31 programme - a nationwide artist development award scheme for mid-career artists led by Ireland's 31 local authority Arts Offices in collaboration with The Arts Council of Ireland. Platform 31 is a national opportunity for artists to develop their practice and test new ideas of collaboration, research, audience development, place-making and sharing their work. Designed to support and offer career development for 31 mid-career artists (one artist in each of the 31 local authorities around Ireland), the scheme will establish a peer networking framework for participating artists, introducing them to a pool of critical thinkers to share their work and learnings, and encouraging a national conversation about creating work in local contexts. European Poetry Anthology (Croatia PEN Centre)

Nine years in the making, the 500-page European Poetry Anthology Ima li pjesnika u Monte Carlu?,  edited by Damir Šodan, was published by Croatia PEN Centre this summer. It includes four poems from my first book  Spitting Out the Mother Tongue  (Wurm Press, 2011) , in Šodan's translation into Croatian. The anthology - whose title roughly translates as  Are There any Poets in Monte Carlo?  - gathers poetry from across the continent through the work of one poet 'representing' each European nation, or in some cases like Cyprus and Ireland of two (one for each official language). It was conceived by Šodan in the wake of  Poetry Parnassus , a week-long festival at Southbank Centre part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, in which (almost) every nation in the world was represented by one poet, and in which Šodan and I both participated .
