gorse Nos 12 + 13

After a long gestation period, I'm very pleased to share that issues 12 and 13 of gorse are now available.

gorse No. 12 is predominantly concerned with Language and Translation, and I'm delighted to be including in it poetry from Ray Malone, Silvina Ocampo in translation by Caitlin Newby, Jérémie C. Wenger, Sujatha Menon, Martin Jackson, and Ghazal Mosadeq. Some of these poets have been waiting a long time for the release of the issue featuring their work, and I thank them particularly for their patience.



Issue 13 is themed around the notion(s) of Taboo, with poetry contributions from Michael Chang, Viviana Fiorentino, Will Fleming, Özgecan Kesici-Ayoubi, and Lianne O'Hara. The issue also features prose contributions from several poets.



These latest issues are currently available to order from selected bookshops; they will also be available to purchase directly from the gorse shop soon, pending a website update.

As ever, I'm grateful to all the above poets for trusting their work with us at gorse.

gorse is a print journal publishing in Dublin. It features longform narrative essays, original fiction, poetry and interviews. It is an exploration of the art of words, and it is interested in the potential of literature. gorse is published and managed by Susan Tomaselli who also edits the journal's content apart from poetry, which is edited by myself. Cover design is by Niall McCormack. gorse is also a book publisher through the Gorse Editions imprint. Its most recent title is New Green Fool, by Alan Cunningham, released in 2025.

My limited edition pamphlet if we keep drawing cartoons  was published by If a Leaf Falls Press earlier this month. If a Leaf Falls Press is a micropress run from Edinburgh by Sam Riviere , and publishes poetry with an emphasis on appropriative and arbitrary writing processes. Now in its Second Season, the press has since its inception in 2015 published simple, elegant pamphlets with work by some exciting writers and artists including Emily Berry, Crispin Best, nick-e melville, Maria Fusco, Rachael Allen and Sam Riviere himself. It comprises ten untitled sections/extracts from the book-length work (in progress) I've been occupied with since mid-2014. The Expanded Field + SERIES 04

A couple of weeks ago I recorded a short excerpt from a new long poem of mine called 'Hallucinations' for the December 2025 edition of Jennifer Redmond & Matthew Geden 's monthly hourlong radio show The Expanded Field, broadcasting on éist radio. éist is a Cork-based volunteer-run internet radio collective dedicated to fostering creativity, collaboration, and community engagement through digital radio. In The Expanded Field , "strategies of poetic creation are debated and extended by audio effects. Aesthetic and ethical boundaries are pushed out and beyond the page." 'The Expanded Field - Baa Boo Humbug' was broadcast at 4pm on Wednesday 17 December 2025 as a mix of experimental sounds, music, interview, poetry and live performance. New Course: writing as a reader / reading as a writer (Irish Writers Centre Academy)

This spring I will lead an 8-week course with title 'writing as a reader / reading as a writer.' The course is offered as part of the Irish Writers Centre Academy 's Spring 2026 programme.
